Garlic is an easy enough root
vegetable to store. The skin retains the freshness
and it has been observed that only by crushing
the pod does the full flavor transfer itself to
the cooking pot. Growing regular or elephant varieties
of garlic requires a few points to be kept in
mind.
1. It grows well and puts out healthy
pods in a soil that is loamy, not lumpy and enriched
with organic matter.
2. It likes warm, sunny weather and if the planting
were done in colder climates, then end July or
early September would be an ideal time for planting.
Use of mulch would help the ground retain necessary
heat for the roots.
3. The sunniest spot in the vegetable patch should
be shared by garlic for good, well-formed pods.
