Types of Fun Lawn Recreation

Lawn games have been a source of fun for generations in families and have also been a medium of family bonding. You can spend many a sunny afternoon playing games like croquet, bocce ball, tetherball, badminton and lawn bowling. Revival of lawn games not only brings back nostalgic memories, but also is also infinitely better than getting hooked onto video games.

Many of us have great gardens but do not use them optimally. Often lack of time is cited, but a common reason could be that families do not know what to do in the yard other than to merely sit down. Playing lawn games can get the entire family outdoors, which can be a lot of fun.

Some points, however, need to be kept in mind while playing lawn games. It is worthwhile that a separate area is demarcated with tougher grass. This is because if you are playing a game like badminton, players are bound to tread on the grass, which may cause damage to the turf. A game of volleyball can also be played on the same area and with the same net. Croquet and bocce ball can also be played, though they are gentler and will cause little or no stress to the lawn.

Often grass does not grow under a tree. If there is a place like this in the yard this could be an ideal place to locate a horseshoe pit. Horseshoe pitching is another great game for the entire family. Tetherball is a good option too and requires equipment that isn't complicated. It requires only a stationary pole, a rope, and a ball and is an informal fun game.
