What to Wear: Dressing up for Gardening

Now that you have decided to be a serious gardener, may be it is time to consider what you are going to wear while you do all the toiling. What you wear has to be suitable for the outdoors, working with soil and water. Surely you do not want to ruin your favorite pair of jeans or get all those mud-stains on your new sneakers. Also you need to think about getting protection from the sun. The following is a run down on the gardening gear you may want to invest in.

Hats: You will find a quite a range of hats at an outfitter. A straw hat, however, serves very well when you are in the garden. Look out for straw hats with cooling lattice weave vents on the crown, which will not only keep you cool but also keep you looking cool.

Bandana: A bandana is a practical, yet colorful way to keep your hair in place and it also protects the head from sunrays. Alternatively, if you wearing a large hat, you could use the bandana around your neck to prevent neck sunburns. When the mercury rises, a wet bandana can keep you super-cool.

Gardening Shoes: There is a large choice of gardening shoes available in the market, ranging from boots to clogs, but try the wallet- and garden-friendly rubber slip-ons, and you will not regret buying them. They come in cheerful colors and are 100 percent waterproof. Their lug sole also provides the grip needed on wet, slippery ground. Moreover, you can simply use the hose to clean them.

Gardening Gloves and Kneepads: While working in a garden is relaxing and also serves as a form of exercise, it can expose your hands to cuts, insect bites and irritants that may be present in the soil. It is a good idea to invest in leather gloves, which gives you total protection against all injuries. It is also worthwhile to use knee pads as they reduce the stress on your knees and back.

Clothes for Gardening: While gardening, your clothes need to be practical. Apparel in cotton is best as the fabric can 'breathe' air and keeps you cool. Shorts and track pants are ideal, but if you want to be different you could go in for hiking skirts. They are unisex skirts, which are airy and can be washed very easily.
