Once you have localized your interest
in gardening, the next step in realizing your
passion is to search for information and seek
motivation so as to boldly venture on your own.
There are many sources that may prove useful to
you. Apart from reading books and magazines on
gardening, useful tips may be gleaned from fellow
gardeners residing in the neighborhood - who may
share a wide variety of information stemming from
their own experiences. Alternatively, it may be
fun to become a member of a gardening club where
you may learn from various exchanges, and put
forth your own queries and/or dilemmas.
Visits to local nurseries and flower shows are
also valuable, especially in helping you to decide
what you would like to grow in your own garden.
In fact, consulting with personnel at nurseries
is especially fruitful as they may give you the
full run down on the plants you are interested
in - for example, whether they are low or high
maintenance plants, where will they grow best,
what are their requirements in terms of soil,
water, food, etc. In contrast, home and garden
shows, allow for opportunities to trace possible
sources of exotic plants that you may be searching
for; also, such shows are frequented by expert
speakers in the field of gardening, who often
have valuable information to share. The final
tip is just to keep your eyes wide open - even
while driving around you may chance upon beautiful
sights which may simply be the construction of
amateurs, but may be just as appealing to you!
Clearly along the way you may
procure extensive theoretical knowledge about
gardening, however, there is no alternative for
actual hands on experience! So it's time to get
your hands dirty, and 'learn by doing'.
