Gardening Lessons: Learning From Your Mistakes

Gardening is an activity that requires a basic understanding of the anatomy and physiology of plants; it requires an attunement with nature and an appreciation for aesthetics. Equipped with these basic skills gardeners across the world tend to their gardens and along the way they face many casualties in the form of their beloved plants. Indeed, you may face many difficulties, the following, in turn, are some pointers for how you may avoid some common mistakes!

TIP 1
Procure information about gardening. Borrow some books; familiarize yourself with the various categories of plants (e.g. deciduous, perennials, biennials), and their individual characteristics. Build your own library on gardening, which you may read at leisure, and refer to when in a quandary.
In gathering information, do no hesitate to pose questions to neighbors and experts - after all, the lives of your precious plants may well be at stake!

TIP 2
To adequately cater to the needs of your plants - you must find out what their basic requirements are, in terms, of light, water, soil, food and repotting. For example, you may inadvertently kill a plant that requires partial shade, by placing it in a sunny spot.

TIP 3
Don't let gardening become a chore. Organize your shed with easy to use gardening tools and equipment; for example, a leaf blower / vacuum may add a new spin on collecting leaves.

TIP 4
When pruning move from top to bottom. If you move upwards, you may not be to clearly see the inner shape of the plant, and hence, the pruning would not be properly aligned.

TIP 5
Do not manhandle your plants. For example, when repotting, handle the plant gently so that the roots or the body of the plant incurs no damage.

TIP 6
Be wary of the invasion of weeds!

TIP 7
Sit back and enjoy the fruits of all your hard work!

A Final Word
In the end, do not be afraid of pottering around in your garden, for mistakes are well worth the learning that will follow. Freely experiment, while closely listening to your plants and learning from them!
