Your landscape is now ready. Everything
is in place and it looks beautiful and it is the
envy of the neighborhood. But are you overcome
by an overwhelming feeling that there is too much
to do in your garden? Take a deep breath and get
down to the task at hand, one part at a time.
Experts advise that creating smaller sub-gardens
within your garden by apportioning it into smaller
areas and tending each one of them separately
will keep you in control of your garden.
Let's face it. Gardening
lovers can all be green thumbs, but too much at
one go can turn anyone into all thumbs! A beautiful
garden needs to be nurtured, cared for and maintained
for it to remain beautiful. I have a friend who
was overwhelmed when he first saw his completed
one-acre garden. He divided his garden into mini-gardens,
an idea he picked up during a visit to a friend's
garden and today has another garden that is almost
twice as big. Splitting his garden into smaller
mini-gardens gave him the clear focus he needed
to work on it in parts and so, tend it as a whole.
He advises that this tried and tested plan works
on a garden of any size, as you can accomplish
so much more, irrespective of the time you spend
on it. Undiluted efforts will show you better
results over a period of time.
The premise of this idea is this: smaller gardens
mean focused efforts on one area at a time. There
is regular rotation involved and all the areas
get the best of your energy and efforts this way.
Keep in mind to choose low-maintenance plants.
You can also add mulch to retain moisture and
control the growth of weeds.
Some of the best
advise I could give would be to not take on more
than you can accomplish at one go, though. Enthusiasm
is fine, but gardening requires long-term dedication.
Dividing your garden into smaller mini-gardens
means you'll enjoy the process so much more as
you will get more done in little time.
You can divide the tasks as per your convenience.
Treat it as you would your daily responsibilities
- laundry on Monday, grocery shopping on Tuesday,
so on and so forth. Following this practice makes
for easier gardening and a greater sense of accomplishment.
